Welcome to the Tara High School Department of Bands. We aim to prepare our students for their college auditions, while providing the best ensemble experiences in the world.
The band has received invitations to perform in New York City, New Orleans, Houston. The Band of Gold has performed at prestigious Mardi Gras Parades, Concerts, Basketball, Football, Pep-Rally, Battle of the Bands and other major events in our community.
Incoming students may study intermediate to advanced flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone, tuba, and percussion. Beginners have a choice of brass instruments.

Majorettes
“The original majorettes, or “Dansmarietjes” in Dutch, were carnival dancers who used batons. It wasn’t until the idea reached the American South’s high schools and colleges that it came to include a mixture of jazz-ballet and hip-hop dance.
Alcorn State University’s majorette team, the Golden Girls, emerged in 1968.” (1)
Majorettes meet each Friday in the main hall to practice marching, and baton basics. A new addition to the band of Gold, membership is open until auditions in May. If you’re interested in becoming a Majorette for the Band of Gold, use the QR Code below to start the process.
Band Uniform Project
The Tara High School Band, has a long tradition of excellence, stretching back to the first days of the school’s opening in 1970. In 1993, the band program received a refresh, which included a set of 150 fully constructed band uniforms by Demoulin (band) and Fruhauf (guard), patterned after the USC Trojan Marching Band.
Consistently, the band has received superior ratings in field and parade performance, proudly representing Troy at Tara High. In 2024, the band wore the 1993 set for the final time, marking 31 years the uniforms had been in service to the bands at THS.
We estimate the uniforms have been worn for approximately 7,200 hours, by the 2,480 +/- members of the Tara High School Band, and Flag Corps. The sleeves are worn, the neck pieces are coming apart, and many of the trousers enclosures are broken, with four sets of bibbers/trousers in rotation. Buttons are broken, capes are ripped, and uniforms are harder to fit the growing band. We have two sets of hats, most broken.
We proudly retire the uniforms, but now we rush to raise funds for new uniforms. Our Director has been in contact with Stanburry, Demoulin, Bandmans, and Band Shoppe to design a uniform for the next generation of the Trojan Band of Gold. The Director seeks to create a uniform which will carry on the torch of victory, bring prestige to our school, and garner invitations to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and beyond. It will cost nearly $80K to replace the jackets, capes, bibbers, helmets, and plumes of the band, keeping our uniform aligned with the history of the band.
